MM2S026: Season 2, Episode 10
By: Ken Boone In my last episode/blog post, I listed 15 things that were my New Year's Resolutions. Most of them were things I'd already started, so what I was pledging to do was to up the consistency as well as the intensity of these endeavors.
Resolution #9: I've been practicing the drums on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. I keep in mind the three things that the online drum instructors preach: patience, persistence, and believing that I'm never too old to learn and excel. In this short period of brief but consistent session, I'm noticing progress! Resolution #10: On the other days of the week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I've been strumming away. Although the sessions are only 15 minutes each, I can see progress being made. Can't wait until I can play an entire song! Resolution #11: I haven't begun recording Celia yet, but that's hopefully coming very soon. From there, we'll be able to dust off our act and get booked to do some small duets gigs at churches, or coffee houses, or even nursing homes. Anywhere there's an audience! There are a number of reasons why I'm anxious get Celia's music out there again.
The duo of Celia and me has Celia playing piano and singing, with me holding down the tasty bass parts. So why did I put practicing the guitar AND the drums on my list of New Year's Resolutions? Good question! There are a million reasons why I would want to. Maybe it's because I want to keep my mind sharp. I priced Pregiven (the memory supplement), and at $75 a bottle, I think I'll pass. I could say that by struggle to make my guitar and drums sound musical makes me appreciate what I can do on the bass. I could also say that playing the guitar helps to enhance hand-eye coordination, as well as continue developing my ear. Did I mention that experts say that playing the drums is an excellent total-body workout! But I'll just keep things simple by saying that learning musical instruments appeals to me much more than other retiree pursuits, such as stamp collecting, quilting, and shuffleboard! And as for recording Celia, I hope to start doing that in the not-too-distant future. Once that's checked off, I have both a YouTube and a SoundCloud channel just waiting for content. There are also a number of stages just waiting for us to perform on again! Today's Quote “Keep up the good work, even if the work sucks.” Anonymous

MM2S025: Season 2, Episode 9
By: Ken Boone Welcome to our first blog post of 2022! This year, we are going to take the scripts from my podcast and repurpose them as blog posts. Between the two platforms, we have an entire year of conversations ahead of us, so let’s get things started!
The name of this game is to be reasonable. And that the only thing I'm responsible is to try my best. As my wife, Celia likes to say, “God honors our efforts”. With that said, here is my relatively long list of New Year's Resolutions for 2022:
There are 15 items on my resolution to-do list. Will I start and stick with all of them? Only time will tell. But I do know this, every time I publish a new episode of this show, I reinforce the idea that anything is possible. Keeping my expectations low and my acceptance high, anything is within reach. It will serve me well if I listen to my YouTube drum instructors and practice patience and persistence. I have to keep my “wanter” in check and take things “one day at a time”. Have a happy and blessed New Year! Today's Quote “Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.” Will Rogers – American Actor, Humorist, and Social Commentator |
