MM2S009: Season 1, Episode 9
By: Ken Boone I got my first dose of the Moderna vaccine last week! In just a few short weeks, I'll get my second shot and finally feel safe again! We're already reaping the benefits of the American Rescue Plan, with direct payments, extended unemployment benefits, and free vaccines, just to name a few of the benefits. Things are looking up, but not everyone is happy. I'm not just talking about Republican lawmakers who voted against the bill. Talk about “what have you done for me lately”! April is shaping up to be a pivotal month in our return to some sense of normalcy. Yesterday, which happened to be Easter Sunday, I noticed a number of church parking lots almost full. The few stores that were opened had lines at checkout. And people generally seemed to be in good spirits. When our President initially declared that he would see to it that Americans would have 100 million shots in arms within his first 100 days in office, he was wrong. He beat that! By a lot! Now, the goal is 200 million in the first 100 days. I won't bet against him if I were you! The way he muscled his $1.9 trillion COVID Relief Bill through Congress should have made Republicans, who muscled judicial confirmations through, green with envy. And he did it with bi-partisan support. Of the American people, that it. In my opinion, the guy currently in the White House has more political talent than anyone I've seen in my lifetime. He's forgotten more that most “cunning” hacks will ever know! That's just my humble opinion. For all the times his administration has exceeded expectations, people still aren't satisfied. I can hear the complaints now:
Like it says in the title of this episode “We Can't Get Everything at Once”. And do you want to know why it can't happen all at once? A silly little thing known as scarcity. Scarcity means that you have unlimited wants (or demands) but limited resources to fulfill those wants (or demands). So, what can we do to cope with scarcity of resources and time? We can start by remembering the chorus of that Rolling Stones' classic: You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes, well, you might find You get what you need You can also practice patience, which is a virtue, by the way. Do I think our President will get everything done on his wish list? Not a chance! How about us getting most of the things we need to get ourselves out of this hole we're in and reclaim our spot as Number 1 in the world. Please, get the facts straight. Try to refrain from using these two words: ALWAYS and NEVER. No such thing as either. Our political adversaries are already gearing up to reclaim majorities in the House and Senate. And history suggests that they may be successful, no matter how much crap they peddle along the way. So the way I see things, we have two years to take care of business, after which chaos will again become the order of the day. I also don't see a point in me using this podcast to soft sell my views on all things body politic. There's something that's keeping me from taking off the gloves and taking on all comers. I think that maturity has finally kicked in. What I will do is keep my head down, eyes and ears open, and share my opinions judiciously. As I see it, my President has a long wish list and maybe two years to fulfill it. He doesn't need my chatter on this platform to muddy up the internet – even though no one actually gives a crap what I have to say about anything! Today's Quote: “To lose patience is to lose the battle.” Mahatma Gandhi
