MM2S024: Season 2, Episode 8
By: Ken Boone This is the last new podcast episode/blog post for CY2021. On the whole, it's been a great year! I have no complaints about health. As for my wealth, I want for nothing. Doing this show has been a Godsend, having published 19 episodes across two seasons this year alone! We morphed from monthly episodes under the category of Society & Culture to bi-weekly episodes in the Personal Journal category, and the show is still evolving. I'd like to use this post to highlight some of the topics we addressed this year. The first four episodes dealt with the 2020 General Election Aftermath and Cleanup
The next four episodes dealt with the COVID-19 vaccine and a return to normalcy.
The next four episodes dealt with life after a much-needed vacation and the podcast's category change.
I call the next four episodes the "Dream Sequence", because this is where we look to the future.
The final three episodes put a period on the year by detailing "The Road from There to Here”.
I'd like to say “Thank you” for your encouragement as we continue on this journey ISO Peace & Healing. Have a Happy and Successful New Year! Today's Quote “As soon as healing takes place, go out and heal someone else.” Maya Angelou

MM2S023: Season 2, Episode 7
By: Ken Boone I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday. By the time this hopefully short podcast episode/blog post is published, we should have survived:
A couple of years ago, I had the bright idea of writing a blog. It didn't run for very long, but I had a lot of fun writing it. Today's episode/post is in a way the audio version of my very first blog post. For most of my life, I considered myself a nomad, moving every few years. It was like I was either in the military or working for IBM! Follow me back to February 2009, and I’m shoveling what seemed like 30 feet of snow from my driveway in Greater Rochester, NY. Don't ask me how I got there, because that will send me ranting in another direction! I quit making New Year’s Resolutions years ago, but this year I made one more: To move south. I needed to get some clarity in my life. It was over 20 years since I touched a piano, sang a note, wrote a song, but I called myself a musician. Talk about fantastical delusions! My reality was that I was an accountant and a one-time youth baseball coach. I let the coaching thing go, but I still relied on bean-counting to pay the bills. To tell the truth, it was killing me slowly. Let me take a minute and start from the beginning. I was born in NYC and raised by parents from the South. The hustle and bustle did not appeal to me at all! I used to think that people moved to NYC to realize all their hopes and dreams, and me wanting to get out was a little “ass-backwards”. As I got older, and hopefully wiser, I learned that a lot of people’s wishes aligned with mine. And I’m not just talking about retirees. Actually, I was late to the party. Almost 40 years ago, my older brother moved to Philadelphia while I was still wishing I was somewhere other than my small apartment in the Bronx with a parking space a quarter mile from my front door. My “other big brother”, who made the move from the Bronx, NY to Spring Hill, FL about 30 years ago. That move turned out well for he and his family. When I asked him for a quote for my first blog post about my move, he simply said this: "The cityscape is nice, but the seascape is priceless!" Back to February 2009. I don’t know if it was me digging out from one last snowstorm, or watching an episode of House Hunters, where the couple was choosing between three beautiful and insanely inexpensive homes in Charlotte, NC, when something clicked! Whatever the prompt, I told myself that “I’m outta here”! And I did… eventually (as in 5 short months). Talk about motivation! Now here I am, producing podcasts, playing small church gigs with my wife, Celia, and fighting with the HOA over the height of my hedges. And I couldn't be happier! As for accounting (my day gig), I still put the debits on the left and the credits on the right, and I still get paid! In fact, I just finished a tax prep gig for a client. While it’s a noble profession, accounting is my alternative to “would you like fries with order?” What I’m trying to say here is to dream it, plan it, then do it. That’s how us procrastinators get off the dime. Getting off the dime allowed me to meet the aforementioned “girl of my dreams”. I can't thank her enough for all she does to make my life Great! Because of her, I:
I want to leave you with what she told me when I would moan on and on for taking some long to come down to beautiful Huntersville, NC, using her best Southern accent: “That’s okay, I know you got here as soon as you could!” Today's Quote/Prayer “Lord, what a sight it must be as we scurry around, confused about this and worried about that. I know that my life would be a lot easier if I stopped and listened to you before I run off trying to solve things on my own. Thank you for not giving up on me, and for reminding me, when I do listen, I know when to turn right and when to turn left.” Karen O'Connor, Author of the book “Getting Old Ain't for Wimps” |
